How to check your cleaner's work when you're not there
By TurnAudit · Last updated October 10, 2026
Give the cleaner a short room-by-room checklist, require a post-clean walkthrough before they leave, and define who can approve a correction before the next arrival. Review the same visible areas each time, especially beds, bathrooms, kitchen, entry, and supplies. A video does not verify odors or anything outside the camera path, so maintain a local backup for issues that require an in-person check.
Set the handoff before the booking turns over
- Agree on a finish time that leaves room for a reclean before check-in. State what the cleaner should do when something is broken, missing, or unsafe.
- Use the same sequence of rooms and a short checklist. Ask for a slow view of beds, bathroom fixtures, kitchen surfaces and appliances, trash, floors, and the entry.
- Review the recording promptly. If something visible needs correction, name the room and specific item, then ask for a second view after the fix.
- Keep a backup cleaner or local contact for absences, access failures, and issues a camera cannot resolve.
Separate condition from blame
The pre-clean view records what is visible after checkout and before cleaning. The post-clean view records what is visible after the work. Comparing them helps assign follow-up tasks without assuming the cleaner caused every issue.
For recurring misses, update the checklist and show the cleaner a specific example rather than adding vague instructions such as 'be more thorough.'
Common questions
Should I ask for photos too?
Use close-ups for small or hard-to-see issues, but keep one consistent room-by-room walkthrough so whole areas are not skipped.
Can I approve a turnover entirely from video?
Only visible areas can be reviewed remotely. Odor, plumbing operation, and unseen surfaces may still need a local check.

Where TurnAudit fits
TurnAudit gives invited cleaners a guided phone-browser recording flow and files the resulting walkthrough by turnover. Hosts review the footage and decide whether a correction is needed.
